Known for the Blue Ridge Mountains and its unique climates, the High Country is a place where the seasons are clearly identifiable. For instance, Watauga County is home to a portion of Beech Mountain, at elevations that near 5,506 feet, and just a few miles down the road, you’ll find, Valle Crucis at 2,677 feet. Boone has an elevation of 3,000 in most places, however Howards Knob, found atop a route that is accessible from downtown Boone NC, has an elevation of 4,396 feet. Blowing Rock sits at 3,566 feet in town, and nearby to the village downtown is a rock formation, located in Caldwell County,  that looks out over the John’s River Gorge, where many tourists visit each year, and that area enjoys an elevation of 4,000 feet.
